Demographics and Statistics
Part of the Wilmington metropolitan area, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach are located on a coastal strip known as Pleasure Island. Although Carolina Beach is only 2.5 square miles, 5,706 residents called it home as of 2010. Kure Beach has a significantly smaller population of 2,519, but don't let that number fool you. Since 2000, they have had a 67.2 percent increase in population. Impressive for an area with only 0.8 square miles! During the peak vacation months, these numbers increase dramatically as sun-seekers stream in for a taste of Southern coastal bliss. Also, due to Pleasure Island's easy access to Wilmington residents, expect to find many of them lounging on shores of Carolina and Kure beaches as well.
